The Village of Bellaire will begin immediate pothole repairs using cold patch asphalt in order to stabilize road surfaces and address safety concerns during the late winter season. Cold patch allows potholes to be filled in colder temperatures when hot mix asphalt is not yet available from local asphalt plants. These repairs are temporary but are necessary to keep roads safe and drivable during ongoing freeze and thaw conditions.
Village Administrator Scott Porter explained that the village will focus first on the roads that carry the most traffic and present the greatest safety concerns.

“As soon as conditions allow, we will begin addressing potholes throughout the village using cold patch material,” Porter said. “Our priority is to stabilize the worst areas first so residents can travel safely while we wait for asphalt plants to reopen and permanent materials to become available.”
Repairs will be prioritized beginning with major streets, followed by main roads and truck routes that experience the highest traffic volumes. Streets with significant safety hazards will then be addressed, with residential streets following afterward. Work will move systematically throughout the village to identify and repair the most urgent areas.
Once asphalt plants reopen in early spring and hot mix asphalt becomes available, Bellaire will return to repaired locations to complete permanent hot patch repairs. At that time, the village will also conduct a coordinated village wide pothole repair effort, often referred to as a pothole blitz, to address remaining issues and complete longer lasting repairs throughout the community.
This approach ensures that roads are made safer now while preparing for more durable repairs as soon as seasonal conditions allow.
