Mayor Robert Dodrill Attends Mayor’s Court Initial Training to Strengthen Local Leadership

Bellaire Mayor Robert Dodrill

Mayor Robert Dodrill recently attended the Ohio Municipal League’s 2026 Mayor’s Court Initial Training held January 15 and 16 at the Ohio University Dublin Integrated Education Center. This required training is designed for newly elected and appointed mayors and provides comprehensive instruction on the responsibilities of mayor’s court, including offenses, court procedures, and alcohol and drug-related traffic cases. The course is certified by the Ohio Supreme Court and provides official certification upon completion.

Mayor Dodrill took the oath of office on December 30 and officially assumed his position as Mayor of Bellaire on January 1. His participation in this training early in his term reflects a strong commitment to learning, professional development, and responsible local leadership. By completing the program, Mayor Dodrill is taking proactive steps to fully understand the legal and administrative responsibilities associated with the role of mayor.

Ohio Revised Code 1905.01 provides that either the mayor and or the council president has jurisdiction to hear and determine prosecutions for violations of municipal ordinances, as well as criminal charges involving moving traffic violations. The training provided important guidance on these statutory duties and emphasized the importance of fairness, accuracy, and professionalism when exercising mayor’s court authority.

“This training is an important opportunity to learn directly from experts and make sure I am prepared to serve Bellaire the right way,” said Mayor Dodrill. “I believe that strong leadership starts with education. The more I understand the law and the process, the better decisions I can make for our community.”

Mayor Dodrill’s attendance directly benefits the Village of Bellaire by strengthening local governance and ensuring that mayor’s court responsibilities, if exercised, are handled with transparency, accountability, and adherence to state law. His commitment to education helps build public trust and supports a more effective and well-informed local government.

Mayor Dodrill remains dedicated to using the knowledge gained through this training to build a stronger, safer, and more resilient Bellaire for residents, families, and businesses.
